Self-portraits are a great way to not only measure growth and mark how a person sees him or herself, but also provide a great baseline for our student drawings- we look to see how many details are added (eyes? ears? eyebrows?), if a student is using the mirror provided to look for familiar shapes, and also provide a great opportunity to practice writing to convey meaning (writing our names on the back of the picture). Today, the students all began their self-portraits. Throughout the rest of the week we will revisit these to add color.
