One of our favorite things about Denver Green School is that a visit to the farm doesn't require a bus, a van, or a car- just a quick walk to the old soccer field behind the swings. Sprout City Farms planted their fields during the first year Denver Green School opened- they've grown up with us!
Our trip today was a great chance for the students to see the farm- we saw carrots, potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, squash, melon, baby fruit trees (with no fruit yet), and the chicken coop where the chickens will live one day. Farmer Meg also let everyone pick some mint to smell and taste- ask your child what the mint smelled like!
We will be back on the farm in two weeks to help harvest potatoes- Farmer Meg heard about our success in the ECE garden, and would love experts to help.
Want to see the farm for yourself? They have volunteer days every Saturday morning from 10-12 and would love help from the whole family! Want to try some of the yummy veggies? Check out the farm stand every Wednesday in the DGS parking lot.
