You may have heard about all the new materials the class found in the room when we returned from winter break. One of the biggest changes is that dramatic play is now a grocery store! This provides a great opportunity to explore jobs in the community, recognize print (on groceries and signs), talk about money and how we buy things, to make lists, and so much more.
Does your child go to the grocery store with you? If they do, here are some ideas to engage your child:
-Have your child help you make a list of what you need- ask if they can help figure out any of the sounds in the words (focus on first and then last sounds)
-Have them make their own list and bring a pencil to cross things off
-Go on a letter or number search- how many times can you find that letter or number? This is a good way to introduce different fonts as well
-Have your child help count items you need (produce is a good place to start)
Please send in pictures of your child at the grocery store!
